the acropolis was amazing. i love european cities with all this history. it always amazes me that these structures have lasted for centuries. it was beautiful. the parthenon was packed with people even though it is still low season. we were all precariously passing each other on the slippery marble steps, which were steep. you know there were the people who were acting the fool and touching what was not to be touched and going places they shouldn't. the shrill whistle of the watchers kept going off and they would scold them in either greek or english. lol... the views were amazing and structures were breathtaking. i walked the halls of the market place where socrates would sit and argue with the other teachers. wonderful. one of the best parts of the day was sitting at an outdoor cafe, drinking coffee and people watching. i am telling you u have never seen hustling by the street vendors anywhere like you see in athens. all races, greek, indian, african.... selling the stupidest, worthless trinkets, toys, umbrellas, bubble makers, screwdrivers etc... you get my drift. and they have no concept of personal space. seriously, when i tell you i was talking and they would appear silently right AT my shoulder, with something in my face... craziness...
Neways after Athens we went to Santorini, which is beautiful... it has been very cloudy and cool, it is after all still winter. but i can just imagine what it is like in summer when the sun is shinning all the time and they would get the most amazing sunrises and sunsets. the bluest water and great views. we found this great little pub, Murphy's, were there is 2 for 1 happy hour and free shots with the drinks. not to mention the DJ was off the hook. i mean he was playing that ole skool R&B, mixing it with modern and just made you wanna dance and dance. we have been there every night that we have been here. they know us and expect us to pop in, after all we do bring the party.
through out this trip Joelle and I did have a little disagreement which lead to a long conversation which was needed. after that we both understand each other's personality so much better and i think made the trip a better one. it's not often that i can say that about a disagreement. we have had great adventures on the island including exploring the island on our quad, Betsy. When you see a pic you will understand. for 20 euro/24 hrs, it was a good rent. we also got to head out to the volcano and i swam in the hot springs. to get to the springs i needed to jump off the ship into the freezing ocean and swim to shore. there the water was warmer, but the ground was mushy with mud. it wasn't the most pleasant thing, but the water was good. there were bubbles coming out of the ground and it was definitely warm. the down side was that i had to swim back to the ship in the freezing water, so all that warmth was lost. neways i can say that i did it. Jo was able to chill on the boat and sleep, cause she isn't a great swimmer.
so here we are, preparing to head back to athens tomorrow. i heard that while i was here there were some bombings or something there, but no one has really said anything to us about them so i'm not really worried...... i'll post pics when i get back.....
