My Gloria moment
so yesterday i had a gig in between services at church and after church. this involved me learning 12 Gloria Estefan songs and us doing it without one rehersal. the gig went off great. the reports were all good and folks had a good time. the only bad thing about it was that after the night was over, the songs kept playing in my head. over and over and over they played, all night, into the morning in my head. for someone who doesn't sing gloria estefan songs at all, it was a bit distressing. hopefully by the middle of the week this will not be a problem....lol.

Snatchers and Catchers
Hey ya, hey ya, hey ya, so this is the end of my first week in snatchers and catchers, otherwise known as obstetrics and gynaecology. i must admit that i have not done any snatching or catching yet, but that will come in week 3 for me as i rotate through delivery suite. so far it has been good, very busy though. this is one specialty that i have been thinking of doing, so i will be paying very close attention to it all and seeing whether it is for me. at this moment i really do enjoy pregnant women and babies, so that, i think is a good starting point.
i must say that it is not as confronting as psych, but it does have its difficult moments. for example, when i was in clinics this week a 19 year old girl came in, of indian origin, who did not speak english, whose husband and inlaws beat her badly so that she would lose the baby. All because the husband has another woman on the side and that woman is pregnant. so instead of wanting the wife's child, they wanted her to abort it and since she wasn't gonna do that, they beat her to make her lose it. she thankfully put and AVO out on them and is now living with family friends. her mother died when she was very young, so her life has not been a picnic. now she is solely dependent on these friends for her well being, otherwise she is essntially alone. now what do you do with a case like that. that is just one of the many, but on the other hand you do get the very happy settled pregnant ladies and so forth. so like everything there is good and bad.
this week has been interesting as we found out our internship places on monday. i got my first choice, Westmead hospital. i'm quite happy with that, cause i'll be with many of my good friends like cameron and Maggie, plus many more. sad that my friends eric and Jawad didn't get where they wanted, but now we are quite excited for them and they for themselves i think, cause they are moving up to newcastle. This means we get to go up there to visit.....yeah.... you know that means....... ROADTRIP!!!!!!!. so that is cool and i'm looking forward to that next year. its only 2 hours away, so we'll still get to see them.
neways... soon time for lectures again......later

I PASSED and now i look like this.....
well folks, i know i have neglected you big time and i do apologize. the last few weeks have been hectic to say the least. it has left me looking like this. now i just want to say that if ANYONE, EVER wanted to accuse me of vanity, then this picture proves them wrong. newyays, today was the climax or should i say anticlimax for a busy 3 or so weeks. i guess i'll start backwards.
today i had my Psychological and addiction medicine final exam. i really had such a peace about it. i spent 3 days studying for it because the week before i was busy both with attending hospital and Hillsong conference. the peace was divine and the exam was fine, and thank goodness that in psych we find out on the same day, which i just did and viola, i passed. so thank you Jesus.
on monday i went to the gaol here, as i am doing forensic psych. that was very very interesting. after we did an assessment on someone who we did not end up accepting in the unit, because he had antisocial personality disorder, and would have been disruptive to the other patients, we got a tour of the prison. those cells are small and so cold, the system so regimented, the guards so strict. the layout of the prison reminded me of the TV show OZ. HBO got it right, the cells do look like that, the layout etc. we also got a look at the suicide cells. thats where inmates on suicide watch reside. they have transparent doors and 2 video cameras in each cell. it was stuffy and smelled like how the rat cages in the research lab smelled. neways it was interesting to see. and made me never want to be imprisoned or see someone in my family imprisoned. it was very clean though, i will tell you that, which is different from gaols in JA.
so the weeks before this, was preparation for hillsong conference and finally hillsong conference 2007, frome 2-7th July. it was amazing, god was amazing. he really sustained us, and spoke to us. all the speakers were great. i especially liked Jensen Franklin and Bishop TD Jakes. working with everyone to help bring forth almost 2000 child sponsorships and over 3000 people going through and experiencing the lives of under privileged children forced into either prostitution, child workers or living on the street, was amazing. so it was a good, tiring, but very good time.
and i truly think that because i was faithful in my time and the giving of it helping at conference and with compassion as well as not slacking in the work that i had to do at hospital, that god was faithful and i passed my exam. you should have seen me training it from olympic park to hospital everyday, back and forth. i did my long case that week. Neways, its done, over andi have a weeks break before Obs and Gyne. catch you all later.....
