Aussie Open

what a weekend i have had. it was simply amazing. i left Sydney in the rain. looking out the window of the plane i thought, at least Melbourne will be sunny. oooooh no. that was not the case. its a good thing i packed a sweater. but i was eager none the less as my weekend of tennis was to begin.

so, down to Melbourne i went for the Australian Open, which i do every year that i am in Australia. this time i was able to go for all day Saturday, which turned out to be an historic day. it all started with Andy Roddick's loss at 2 am Sat morning and continued with Roger's (#1 in the world) 10:8 win over Tipsarevic (#49 in the world) in the 5th set. during that match, i couldn't even get up to use the bathroom. no one wanted to leave lest they miss something. i was on the edge of my seat, the match lasted 5 hours and was just simply amazing. that was followed up by Venus' win over Mirza and the then Hewitt came on court at minutes to 12am. that match was the latest starting and ending match in Australian open history, ending at 4:34 am Sunday morning. i had to leave that match at 2 am, cause of flight times the next day. i did stay up till about 3:30 am, then fell asleep. it was really really good, even though Hewitt won. i was cheering for Baghdatis. My friend and I did get to congratulate him on an amazing match in the airport on Sunday. we had a 2 sentence exchange and so i was happy... but i digress...
i had a great time with friends one, who went with me the last time, and the other, who had never been. i met a cool photographer (Amy) in the Garnier line. we lined up for over and hour for me to get the free products and a massage. it was worth it. i'll hopefully get to see some more of Amy's photography when her website gets up and running again. from her card, she looks like she is a good photographer. we chatted about camera preferences, flicker and anything else we thought about to pass the time. you all know that next year when i go back, i will have a new camera with zoom lenses etc, so i can get great pics of my favourites.

then on sunday, one of my friends had an early flight and the other and i got to sleep late, since our flight was at 5:15pm. we roamed the mall where i saw this magnificent sight. this mall was built around an old coal or lead factory. and the photo above is the sight that greeted you when you looked up. impressive. i do like Melbourne to visit. the trams are great, and shopping exceptional. but the best thing for me is always, the tennis....:)
